Ritter Longerbane was the leader of the opposition and fierce rival to Absalom Breakspear until he was framed and killed by Piety Breakspear.

History[]

Ritter grew up in the Burgue, where he met a unknown woman, with whom he had a child with that they named Sophie. During this time, he also rivaled Absalom Breakspear for the affection of Piety Breakspear. Unbeknownst to him, he fathered a child with her, however, that child was raised by Absalom and named Jonah.

Season one[]

Critch overtaking[]

The Republic of the Burgue assemble at Balefire Hall to discuss the influx of Critch. Ritter Longerbane sees them as an infestation, accusing them of changing the fabric of his society. They bring vices, wantonness, the scourge of lixer addiction, the worship of strange gods. Chancellor Absalom Breakspear reminds him that the reason the fae folk were forced to flee their lands in the first place was because the party lead by Longerbane, the Hardtackers, decided to let Tirnanoc fall into the hands of the Pact. Breakspear believes it was a war they could’ve won. Longerbane proceeds to accuse the fae of stealing good jobs from the Burguish men. He then accuses Chancellor Breakspeare of consorting with Pix harlots.[1]

Death of Longerbane[]

In Parliament, Longerbane and Absalom’s parties discuss the Critch and their place in the Burgue. Absalom grows angry at the sight of Longerbane and demands that he conjure his son, though Longerbane has not the slightest clue to which Absalom is talking about. And so Absalom attacks him from across the table, accusing him of kidnapping Jonah.

Absalom sits in Parliament as his party and Longerbane’s discuss the Critch and their place in the Burgue. Absalom grows angry at the sight of Longerbane and demands that he conjure his son, though Longerbane has not the slightest clue to which Absalom is talking about. And so Absalom attacks him from across the table.

Piety approaches a beaten and bloody Longerbane. She’s brought him something to drink for the pain. Longerbane insists that he doesn’t know where Jonah is. And Piety knows this as she has Jonah. However, Absalom doesn’t know that. Longerbane begins to choke as he realizes that Piety has poisoned him. As Longerbane takes his last breath, Piety runs out with fake tears on her face and tells Absalom that Jonah is at the old Copley Baths.[2]
